In this article I'm going to discuss two foods that you may be surprised to learn are very fattening. The vast majority of people quite wrongly believe these foods to be beneficial to health. When I advise people to think seriously about eliminating or at least reducing the intake of these foods, the usual reaction is one of disbelief.
Anybody with an interest in the subject will know how bad high fructose corn syrup and trans fats are for you. Therefore I will not waste time on that subject... So instead carry on reading to discover the two so called "healthy" foods that are packing on the pounds and hiding your perfect abs.

Wheat products are the first type of food that is very often considered to be healthy. This includes pasta, crackers, muffins, bagels, and of course most types of bread. And if you think this does not include whole wheat I'm afraid you are wrong, these products are also in the fattening category.
To begin with, many people have a natural intolerance to the gluten in wheat and other grains. Fully developed celiacs are extremely sensitive to it. This is because as humans we are not designed to eat such high quantities of wheat. As a result our digestive system simply cannot handle large amounts of wheat in our daily food intake.
It is only in the last two thousand years or so that wheat has played such a big part in our diet, but it is only in the last 100 years that our dependence on these products has increased to unprecedented levels. It is impossible for the human body to adapt in such a small time scale. The human digestive system evolved over hundreds of thousands of years and is based on the hunter gatherer diet of seeds, nuts, fruits, and of course meat.
It is no surprise therefore that when my advice is heeded and my clients who are hoping to lose weight drop wheat products from their diet, they notice a huge difference in as little as a couple of weeks. Not only do they begin to lose weight quickly but in many cases other health issues such as skin problems, digestive disorders and headaches simply go away.
My second example of a very fattening food that surprises people because it is generally considered to be healthy is fruit juice.
Although I believe it is very healthy to eat most fruits a problem arises when you separate the juice from the remainder of the fruit. Because what you are left with is a very high calorie sugary mixture. It is not natural to do this as the fibre and other beneficial portions of the fruit are then simply discarded.
The two worst villains in the modern diet are orange and apple juice. Unless you get the appetite satisfying effects of eating the fibre in whole apples and oranges you are left with a craving for more. In addition when eating the whole fruit the fibre aids in slowing the blood sugar response much more compared to fruit juice.
To sum up... drinking too much fruit juice will make you fat and you will never see your perfect abs. Conversely eating whole fruits are an essential ingredient in a healthy balanced diet and will help keep obesity at bay.
