Writing lyrics is a creative process through which you are able to express your feelings and convey them to the listener. It is an essential part of songwriting and a good songwriter always devotes a lot of his time and effort in writing lyrics. He pays close attention to every little detail, noticing all the things happening around him. By interacting with different people and listening to what they have to say you get a different perspective of the world we live in, thus enabling you to write strong and powerful lyrics. For a song to be good there must be a balance between the music and the lyrics. If anything is out of order, it will result in a terrible combination.
The process of writing lyrics differs from person to person. While some people write before arranging the melody, there are others who sing along while strumming and write accordingly. It doesn't matter if you write in the beginning or at the end, what matters is that through your lyrics you must be able to communicate with the listener and paint him a picture of what the song is all about.
Lyrics
The first step in writing lyrics is that you should determine the theme of the whole song. Think about what you are feeling at the moment and work with that. A good way to start with your composition is to jot down whatever comes to mind. It doesn't necessarily have to rhyme. You can just write passages of how you feel. This would give you a vague idea of what the song will be all about.
Pay close attention while writing lyrics for the chorus. It is the identity of any song since that is generally what people remember the most about a song. It should be relevant and match the theme of the song while grabbing the attention of the listener at the same time. Once you have jotted down the lyrics for the song come up with a catchy title. The title should compliment the theme of the whole song. It is not at all necessary for the title to be included in the actual lyrics.
Just be true to yourself and start writing. Dig deep in your emotions and find something worthy to write about. You can even take inspiration from various quotations which would only assist you during the writing process.
