The G Shock 6900 was one of the earliest, if not the very first of the Casio G Shock watches. The term is now used for a whole range of different watch models with the same face layout, but a wide variety of features and styles for men and women, boys and girls.
The G Shock 6900 has a rectangular digital display for the time, date and a variety of other features. Above the rectangular display are three circles, sometimes referred to as eyes, which indicate the passing of seconds, minutes and hours.
Shock
The G Shock is famous for its shock resistance and it is water resistant to 200 metres. It includes a stopwatch and countdown timer as well as an auto calendar that is good until 2099, which should be long enough for most of us. Other standard features you can expect are an EL backlight with an afterglow, a flash alert for the built in alarms, hourly time signal and countdown timer. Twelve and twenty four hour time format displays and a battery that lasts on average two years, but in the solar powered models will usually last the lifetime of the watch.
The solar powered 6900's have solar cells subtly built into the face. These cells collect power from the sun or any other light source and store it in the rechargeable battery. Once charged the watches can run for long periods without exposure to light. So you never have to worry about the watch losing time and you can feel confident that you are making a small contribution to the health of the planet by opting for solar power.
Also included in the range are solar atomic models. As well as running on solar power these watches synchronise with atomic clocks around the world, so that they always display precisely the right time.
Apart from the wide variety of case and wrist band colours, the G Shock 6900 also has a wide range of face colours and types. They come in neutral colours, black and mirror/metallic looks and a choice of colours that may match or contrast the case and wrist band.
There are 6900's with military, durable designs as well as more stylish looks that can be worn anywhere. The DW6900SB with a black mirror face, red display and a gray case and band is a favourite of mine.
The GLX6900 is one of the G-Lide series, which include tide and moon graphical displays and are widely used by surfers, fisherman and other marine sports enthusiasts. The face comes in a range of luminous colours which contrast with the black case and wrist band.
G shock 6900's are available in a wide range of bright fashionable street colours that can really make you stand out. Check out the yellow, white and purple models. The GLX6900XA is designed for action sports enthusiasts, and Hawaiian street wear. It is based on a reggae culture theme. Red, yellow and green unite in perfect harmony and golden rays adorn the watch face. Turning on the EL backlight causes the words "ONE LOVE" to appear on the display, which expresses a message of world peace. The words "One Love" obviously come from the Bob Marley song of the same name.
So, as you can see, one face design extends to a vast range of models and there should be one to suit everyone.
