It will almost always catch you by surprise when your boyfriend says he needs space. It will be almost impossible to keep yourself from crying and begging him to change his mind. But there are words you can say that will shock him and they are not I love you. If you could summon up the strength to say them now, it would change his attitude immediately. That would probably be too hard for you to do, but don't despair, they will have just as much effect on him later.

Suddenly he will realize that you might have found someone else and he will kick himself for ever needing space. Your ex boyfriend will swallow his pride and decide to call you. When he calls you, it is the time you have been waiting for. He will be ready for the words that will shock him out of his shoes.
Be sure to remain calm and let him engage in small talk. He will probably ask you what you have been doing, and be vague with your answers. Then take control of the conversation and tell him you are glad he called because there is something you want tell him. He might think you are going to say you still love him. So, imagine his shock when you tell him the breakup was for the best.
Tell him it took you a while to see it, but you needed some space too. Then wish him luck and end the conversation. He will not be able to handle the rejection he will be feeling. Soon your ex boyfriend that needed space will be telling you he cannot live without you.
